Respirator Fit Testing in Phoenix, AZ

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 requires one for anyone who wears a tight-fitting respirator at work. It proves the respirator seals on that person's face, so it is done per person and per respirator model.

Before first use, again on any change of make, model or size, and at least every 12 months. Also any time a change to someone's face could affect the seal.

Qualitative (QLFT) is a pass or fail check: the wearer either detects a test agent by taste or smell, or does not. Quantitative (QNFT) measures how much air leaks into the facepiece and reports a numeric fit factor. OSHA caps QLFT at a fit factor of 100, so a full facepiece, which must reach 500, has to be tested quantitatively. We test every reusable respirator quantitatively and test disposable N95 and P100 facepieces qualitatively, the method OSHA accepts for them.

Yes. OSHA requires one before anyone is fit tested, and it is a 20-minute questionnaire each person completes online rather than a trip to a clinic. It covers the questions OSHA makes mandatory in 1910.134 Appendix C, and a licensed physician reviews every one. Most people clear without anything further; anything flagged gets a follow-up from the physician first. The employee receives a written determination and you receive the record for your compliance file. Any appointment date works, short notice included.
